Vista appears to be available for MSDN subscriptions! I'm downloading with about a 1mb/s now, so I'm properly one of the first :) Office 2007 was really slow, about 100kb/s, so maybe they upgraded their hardware to Vista? :) Only problem is, that they are having problems with their key generation :( Can't really install without a key. Hope they can fix it soon!

Thanks Andy!As I was in Barcelona last week, Andy Wigley had a talk about the Mobile Client Software Factory and its uses. He presented a great tool called Pocket Controller, by SOTI Inc. It allows you to control your Pocket PC from your Windows XP. When I first installed the app, it didn't have the right skin for my QTEK 9100, so the skin manager pops up... It then retrieves a list from their library, and there you have it: QTEK 9100 skin, downloadable! Now I'm controlling my device with my ...

I've installed Vista RC2 on my desktop, but I hadn't been able to connect from my laptop. This had to change, so I disabled the firewall, to figure out what was goin on. But that didn't help either...
It seems Vista doesn't allow access to the default shares of C$, D$ etc for your drives. This has to be enabled, and I found the answer here. You have to create or modify the registry key found here:HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\system\LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicyAnd set...

The last session of TechEd 2006 was attended at Brad Adams. He talked about "Smart Client: Getting the most out of Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)", which was not so successfully.
The event was marked as DEV363, which makes it a level 300. It didn't even come near 200, so I was pretty disappointed with the session.
Brad did talk about when you should use Windows Forms, WPF or even both at the same time. If you have an old Windows Forms application, you could insert som...

Andy talked about "Building Enterprise Mobile Applications with the Patterns and Practices Mobile Software Factory". The Mobile Software Factory contains the following applications blocks: Configuration Connection Monitor Data Access Disconnected Service Agent Endpoint Catalog Orientation-Aware Control Password Authentication Subscription Manager He didn't have time to talk about all the application blocks, but wanted to tell, that this is something you can use out of the box. Configurat...

Games programming in .NET by using XNA Express, was presented by Rob Miles. A totally brilliant lecturer from Hull University of England. He presented the ability to write games in C#, that could port to both Windows platforms, as well as the XBOX 360!
"A horse walks into a bar, and the waiter asks: Why the long face?". When presenting jokes like that, you know it's gonna be a tough croud! But he pulled it off, and with flying colors even!
What is XNA Express?XNA Express is a Framework like ...

Ingo talked about "Optimizing Performance and Scalability of Distributed .NET Applications", where he talked about what to look for, when searching for bottle necks in a distributed application. A lot of the trouble exists on/with the database server. Some use Stored Procedures, because they say its faster. Lets assume that you have a table of 20 columns, where you want to update 3 of the columns, after a user has made some changes. Stored Procedures are usually constructed with a general per...

It's a beutifull morning in Barcelona, and we are leaving for TechEd.
Today is the last day of TechEd 2006, so I'm hoping to get as much out of it as possible.
I've got plans for sessions about distributed .NET applications, and what to be aware of, when looking for bottle necks. Afterwards i'm looking forward to seeing Rob Miles in action, when he's going to talk about the XNA Express program. I haven't figured out, what to do afterwards, so I'll be posting some more info later :)
